Your Anti-Virus Software & Firewalls WON’T Protect Your Machines Against this Dangerous Type of Ransomware!

Ransomware has quickly become a huge threat to businesses of all types and sizes. Not sure what ransomware is all about?

Allow us to explain: ransomware is a form of malware that infects machines, that encrypts all of the files on the machine; and unless the victim pays a large ransom fee, the files remain encrypted, and as a result, unusable and inaccessible forever.

Warning: Cryptowall 2.0 is Striking Businesses Everywhere – Don’t Become the Next Victim!

What to look out for:

  1. Carefully look at emails with attachments. Make sure everyone knows to be particularly careful of zip files. As a rule of thumb, never open an attachment if you don’t know the sender. (Cryptowall has been known to send emails containing suspicious Dropbox links that inform you about a new voicemail or incoming fax report. Some commenters noted that these came from “Trusted” email addresses.)
  2. Make sure your antivirus program is well managed and up-to-date. Although antivirus programs aren’t having success blocking this malware, it’s still an important first line of defense.
  3. Look carefully at your backup strategy. Make sure users on your network don’t have access to your backup device. We suggest that you consider an extra file-level backup. This will make sure that not only the files on your server are backed up, but also those on your PC.
